Striping and Motorcycles
When my wife and I were in Mexico we saw a sign advertising "stripers" at the local club. We were intrigued.
This newsletter is about striping. Albeit a different kind. The striping here refers to the paint applied to the road to demarcate lanes, etc.
Like most things, there's more to the paint used by the State and municipalities than meets the eye.
For instance, the reflective quality of the striping is created by mixing small glass beads into the paint.
Silicone is added to speed drying and extend wear.
The combination of the glass beads and silicone makes striping slippery (especially when it's wet). And that slippery quality is poses an extreme hazard to motorcycle riders.
That’s why we’ve partnered with several motorcycle rights organizations to explore strategies that are practical and also provide adequate protections for year-round riders.
We send this newsletter out to about 1,500 people. I’m confident that some of you have feedback about personal experiences with slippery striping and/or ideas about how to make it less dangerous.
