There’s this idea that a mTBI (a concussion) is an isolated event.

It happens, there are symptoms and, when symptoms resolve, the concussion is over.

That kind of thinking makes sense for something like a cold.  A cold is not a catalyst for the disease process.  But a concussion is something entirely different.

Myth No. 3: TBIs are Transient

The insult to the brain that causes the concussion sets a bio-chemical chain reaction in motion.  It’s the first domino to fall.  Many others frequently follow.

While the “concussion” may resolve in a fairly short period of time people are frequently left with a constellation of symptoms that were caused by the concussion.

This constellation is called Post-Concussive Syndrome.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a condition, not a one-time event.  Even if you’re lucky enough to have all symptoms resolve, your brain has been changed.
