In the last couple of years head injuries (over-all) have decreased. But head injuries among older people have increased.
People over 75 now experience the highest rates of head/brain injury hospitalizations and death. A related CDC study found that for older people, death from falls (the major cause of head injuries) almost doubled between 2000 and 2015.
Most falls are preventable. That’s why it’s so important for facilities serving older people/residents to eliminate hazards.
